Social-judicial Services
The Centre d'expertise Marie-Vincent works closely with social-judicial Partners. This collaboration ensures the clientele's support throughout the judicial and other process following a disclosure of child sexual abuse.
CAVAC - Centre d'aide aux victimes d'actes criminels
The CAVAC is a crime assistance service center. In some cases victims can meet with a CAVAC counsellor at the Centre.
CAVAC offers free frontline post-trauma and psychosocial services to victims and their families, as well as to witnesses of criminal acts.
In some cases, children and their parents can meet with a CAVAC counsellor directly at the Center. This provides a safe and familiar environment for the child and his parent(s). In some cases these meetings are held in preparation for a court appearance therefore helping in understanding the different judicial procedures. A CAVAC counsellor may also accompany the victim and his family to the court hearing.
IVAC - Direction de l'indemnisation des victimes d'actes criminels
IVAC offers compensation or provides services to crime victims under the Crime Victims Compensation Act. An "Application for Benefits" form can be obtained from the Direction de l'IVAC or one of the CSST's regional offices. You may also download the form from the Web site
An appointed counsellor from Personalized Services for parents may assist the parent(s) by:
- Providing an Application for Benefits form and assisting in its completion;
- Accompanying the parent(s) through the process and establishing links with IVAC;
- Informing those involved of the compensation granted and the various available services offered by IVAC, for the child victim and his parent(s), depending on the situation;
- Answering related questions.
It is important to fill-out an application form without delay following a child's disclosure of sexual abuse. This will reduce delay in the request's processing and will therefore help the child victim to promptly receive adequate treatment.
