Becoming a volunteer at the Centre

Volunteering at the Centre d'expertise Marie-Vincent means actively participating in our mission to help and support child sexual abuse victims, aged 12 and younger, their parent(s) or closed ones.

A special training program has been established for our volunteers in order to support them in their tasks throughout their implication at the Centre.

Examples of type of volunteering at the Centre :

  • Entertaining and playing with the children in the waiting room;
  • Helping parents fill out forms;
  • Collaborating with our clerical staff;
  • Helping organize special activities such as events, training and seminars.

Note that schedules may vary according to the tasks. While some tasks require regular involvement on your part others will demand occasional participation.

  • French and English conversational skills
  • Very autonomous
  • Discrete and good judgemental skills
  • Team player
  • Coping skills and flexibility
  • Ability to interact with young children (12 and younger) and their parent(s)
  • Contribute 3 consecutive hours / week for a minimum period of 6 months

Pre-requisites

  • Be 18 years of age and older
  • Complete an application form
  • Come for a selection interview
  • Availability at least 3 hours a week for a minimum period of 6 months
  • If you are chosen to volunteer, you must :
    • Agree to a Police Records Check*
    • Provide references
    • Update immunization process and provide vaccination proof
    • Participate in a special training program for volunteers
    • Sign :
      • An agreement to respect the Centre's fundamental values
      • A commitment for a 6 month period
      • A confidentiality agreement

* The Police Records Check is normal procedure in the engagement process for volunteers working with children and vulnerable clientele. Our organization must take reasonable measures to protect the clientele.
