Services provided at the Centre

The Centre aims to develop the leading expertise in child sexual abuse by offering services and by combining knowledge and research.

Services :

A child must be referred by one of the Centre's designated Partners in order to receive services at the Centre d'expertise Marie-Vincent.

Here is an example of how we might proceed at the Centre.

Note that the following information is provided as a guide. According to circumstances many factors may vary.

  • A report has been filed with the DYP - Director of Youth Protection or the police.
  • An appointment is made with the Centre. A parent or other adult accompanies the child to his appointment. The police investigator meets the child and the accompanying adult.
  • The police investigator explains the legal procedures and asks the accompanying adult to complete a declaration.
  • The police investigator interviews the child in a specially controlled environment. Following the interview, the accompanying adult meets with a counsellor from Personalized Services.
  • A medical examination may be requested either by the police investigator or the DYP in order to assess the child's wellbeing. The medical visit with the pediatrician and, in certain cases, the clinical nurse, can take place at the Centre.
  • Once the child's specific needs have been assessed, and upon referral, specialised treatment can be offered.
